CORONAVIRUS UPDATE 26.03.20

Stay at home to stop coronavirus spreading

Everyone must stay at home to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

You should only leave the house for 1 of 4 reasons:

  • shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
  • one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household
  • any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
  • travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home

Important - These 4 reasons are exceptions – even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.

There is separate advice about:

  • staying at home if you're at high risk of getting seriously ill from coronavirus
  • staying at home if you or someone you live with has symptoms of coronavirus

Symptoms and what to do

Do not leave your home if you have either:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

To protect others, do not go to places like a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. Stay at home.

Use the 111 online coronavirus service to find out what to do.

Only call 111 if you cannot get help online.

Anyone who meets the above criteria is advised not to go to a GP surgery, community pharmacy or hospital. Instead they should call NHS 111, stay indoors and avoid close contact with other people.

  • Special care zones in South Korea as designated by the Government of the Republic of South Korea

  • Hubei province (as previously noted)

It is a requirement that all GPs provide patients with convenient access to Online Services. Online services offer additional ways to interact with your GP, making it easier and more convenient to access the services you need. Click the links on the right hand side to see what we offer.

Online Services

The new computer system Emis has been up and running for a year now and after a few teething problems has been a huge success. Many surgeries in Herts Valleys CCG have made this change and are now using the same system. This will enable local surgeries to work together in providing patient services in the community.

Download the NHS app - this is a great, easy app that gives good medical information but also enables you to link to our online system so you can book appointments and order prescriptions any time of the day. - Do let us know if you need any help.

You could register with our online system (although now we recommend using the NHS app as you can verify your ID from home).  You are able to view your medical records and request your prescriptions online. Please use the form below to register, bring the form into the surgery in person and provide photographic ID.

GP online services allow you to access a range of services via your computer, mobile or tablet. Once you have signed up, you will be able to:

  • book or cancel appointments online
  • renew or order repeat prescriptions online
  • view parts of your GP record, including information about medication, allergies, vaccinations, previous illnesses and test results

You can still contact the practice by phone or in person, this is just another option, which other patients have found is more convenient and saves them time. More information including “how to” leaflets and videos of patients and why they are using GP online services are available at www.nhs.uk/gponlineservices

How to sign-up

For more information please contact reception or next time you visit the surgery, bring with you a form of photo ID for example passport or driving licence. If you don’t have these, please talk to us and we will help you sign-up.
